WHAT IS LOTRONEX?

Lotronex is a prescription drug that is used by women that are experiencing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) with diarrhea as a main problem. Lotronex was not found effective with men.

WHAT IS IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) causes lower abdominal pains, a sudden need to have a bowel movement, constipation, and irregular cycles of both diarrhea and constipation.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SIDE EFFECTS?

There have been over 70 cases of side effects. The effects being: 49 ischemic colitis cases and 21 extreme constipation cases. There have been three counts of deaths due to the above two symptoms, and 10 of the above incidents have resulted in surgery.

WHY WAS LOTRONEX REMOVED FROM THE MARKET?

Due to the severity of the side effects, Glaxo Wellcome the company that manufactures the drug, has voluntarily removed Lotronex from the market.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM TAKING LOTRONEX?

As with any drug, you should always consult your doctor before making any decisions concerning your health. Discuss an alternative to Lotronex and/or any specific follow-up medications or treatments.

HOW DO I PROVE I HAVE TAKEN Lotronex DRUGS?

Be sure to keep any containers or unused portion of the drugs you have taken that contain Lotronex. If you do have a case, we will need these items for proof. Keep them in a safe place but please do not send them here unless directed to do so.
