Sexual Abuse Lawsuits Against the Catholic Church

Just before midnight on February 27, 2007, the Roman Catholic diocese of San Diego declared bankruptcy, stating that although it has assets of over $100 million, it estimated its debts to be more than that. This action stopped the first sexual abuse trial, which had been scheduled to begin the next day, February 28. There are about 150 such lawsuits filed which allege sexual abuse of children by 60 priests, in incidents which extend back into the 1950s.
